We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Investor & Startup Relations Intern to join our team at Maloba Consulting. This role involves identifying promising startups across Africa, building relationships with founders, and connecting them with potential investors. As part of the investor and startup relations team, you will play a crucial role in fostering collaboration within the startup ecosystem. This position is ideal for someone passionate about entrepreneurship and eager to bridge the gap between startups and funding opportunities.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Startup Identification:

    • Research and identify high-potential startups in Africa across diverse industries aligned with Maloba Consulting’s investment focus.

    • Monitor startup ecosystems, events, competitions, and innovation hubs to discover investment-worthy startups.

  • Founder Engagement:

    • Conduct outreach to startup founders via social media, email, and in-person networking to present Maloba Consulting’s opportunities.

    • Build meaningful relationships with founders, understanding their needs and challenges.

    • Act as a trusted point of contact for startups seeking funding guidance or mentorship.

  • Investor Collaboration:

    • Assist in identifying and engaging potential investors interested in funding early-stage startups.

    • Prepare and share detailed startup profiles and pitches with the investor network.

    • Facilitate meetings and communications between investors and startups.

  • Screening & Evaluation:

    • Review startup applications, analyzing key aspects such as market potential, innovation, and scalability.

    • Compile and summarize relevant data on startups for internal use and investor discussions.

  • Event Participation:

    • Represent Maloba Consulting at startup events, pitch competitions, and ecosystem gatherings.

    • Actively network with ecosystem stakeholders, including incubators, accelerators, and investors.

  • Data Management:

    • Maintain and regularly update a CRM/database of startups, investors, and key stakeholders.

    • Generate reports on scouting activities, investor connections, and startup progress.

  • Collaboration & Marketing:

    • Work closely with internal teams to align startup scouting efforts with Maloba Consulting’s strategic objectives.

    • Partner with the marketing team to design campaigns targeting both startups and investors.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

• Degree or diploma in Business, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Marketing, or related fields is preferred but not essential.

• Demonstrated interest or coursework in startups, venture capital, or innovation ecosystems is a bonus.

 

Experience:

• Experience with startups, incubators, accelerators, or venture capital is advantageous.

• Familiarity with the African tech and entrepreneurial landscape is highly valued.

 

Skills:

• Strong analytical and research skills to identify and assess startup opportunities.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to connect with diverse stakeholders.

• Proficiency with CRM systems, lead-tracking tools, and basic presentation software.

• Event coordination and planning experience are a plus.

 

Personal Attributes:

• Passionate about startups, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

• Proactive, with a strong sense of initiative and curiosity.

• Highly organized and detail-oriented when juggling multiple tasks.

• Comfortable networking at events and building lasting relationships.

 

Tools Familiarity:

• Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides), Canva, Notion, Zoom, and website platforms like Wix is an advantage.
