WHY JOIN US AS A JUNIOR STARTUP SCOUTING
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Startup Scouting Junior to join our team at Maloba Consulting. This role involves identifying promising startups across Africa and building relationships with founders. As part of the scouting team, you will help discover high-potential startups for our accelerator program. This position is a great opportunity for someone passionate about the startup ecosystem and eager to contribute to the growth of early-stage companies.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
RESPONSIBILITIES

Startup Identification:

Research and identify emerging tech startups across various industries that align with the accelerator’s focus areas.

Monitor startup events, competitions, and tech communities in Cape Town and beyond to find potential applicants for the program.

Outreach & Engagement:

Conduct outreach to founders through social media, email, and networking events to introduce the accelerator program.

Build relationships with startup founders and explain the benefits of joining the accelerator.

Initial Screening:

Review applications and perform initial evaluations of startups based on criteria such as product potential, market opportunity, and team strength.

Collect and summarize information about each startup for internal discussions.

Collaboration:

Work closely with the accelerator team to understand the types of startups that best fit the program’s goals and investment focus.

Collaborate with the marketing team to generate targeted campaigns that attract startup founders.

Event Participation:

Attend startup events, demo days, and tech meetups to scout for potential startups and build relationships with ecosystem stakeholders.

Represent the accelerator at networking functions, both virtually and in-person.

Data Management:

Maintain a database of scouted startups and update records with key information such as contacts, interactions, and scouting status.

Provide regular reports on scouting activities, potential leads, and the status of applications.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:
-
Degree or diploma in Business, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, or a related field is preferred, but not essential if the candidate has a strong passion for startups.

Experience:

Previous experience in a startup, incubator, or accelerator (internships, part-time jobs, or freelance work) is a plus.

Familiarity with the African tech ecosystem, particularly in Cape Town, is highly valued.

Skills:

Strong research and analytical skills to identify and evaluate promising startups.

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills to engage with founders and the startup community.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet scouting goals.

Basic knowledge of CRM tools and lead-tracking systems is a plus.
